Originally from the middle of the 19th century, this little fella` is apparently the outcome of toy Bulldogs` crossbreeding that was imported from local Parisian and England ratters.

The Frenchie shouldn`t be seen as a mini-bulldog. Moreover, this stocky, muscular canine is one of the most unusual canines regarding their coat color.

The popularity of this dog breed is well known nowadays. In 2020, the French Bulldog was the 2nd most popular registered canine in the U.K. and the 4th most popular dog registered in the AKC in the U.S.

This dog is a well-balanced house canine that thrives on its owner`s attention. The Frenchie doesn`t really bark that much; maybe it’s just that there is a real reason for excitement.

White French Bulldog Is Called …!

Frenchies usually come in a wide variety of colors, including all-white coats. So, white dogs of this breed are – white French Bulldogs.

Either all-white or predominantly white coats, these French Bulldogs have an appealing appearance that makes them rather unique.

Pied French Bulldogs are the ones that have either an eggshell skin color or a white one, but also several dark color patches. (“What Colors and Patterns Do Frenchies Come In? – What The Frenchie”, 2022)

A white Frenchie with markings is known as a brindle French Bulldog or piebald. This type of Frenchie will have a predominantly white color. (“What You Didn’t Know About White French Bulldogs”, 2022)

Does AKC recognize Pied French Bulldogs?

Although not so common in French Bulldogs, the “pied” version of this breed is officially recognized by the AKC and most other Kennel Clubs. Still, not all pied variations are up to the breed’s standards. (Davis, 2022)

For a French Bulldog to be a recognized “pied” breed, it must have at least 50% white patches with other colors. (“Pied French Bulldog: Facts You Need to Know Before Owning This Frenchie – Healthy Homemade Dog Treats”, 2022)

Many Frenchies are born with that beautiful color of blue in their eyes. Nevertheless, only in rare cases do they manage to keep this particular color into adulthood. (“10 Facts About Blue Eyed French Bulldogs – French Bulldogs 101”, 2022)

Also, it`s believed that some white Frenchies without a trace of brindle carry a gene that is related to deafness.

Therefore, if your white Frenchie puppy has blue eyes (due to the Merle gene), your doggy might be at an increased risk of hearing loss. (“French Bulldogs with Blue Eyes: The Truth About Blue-Eyed Frenchies (Risks & Facts) – Canine Bible”, 2022)

White French Bulldogs vs. Deafness

Hereditary deafness, also known as hearing loss at birth, might occur in Frenchies with white coat pigmentation. (Aaron, 2022)

Congenital deafness can have two origins: neuroepithelial or cochleosaccular. Cochleosaccular deafness is generally seen with the Merle or Piebald genes and dogs with white coats. (Strain, 2022)

According to Aaron (2022), researchers have found that canines with white fur are more predisposed to experience hearing issues even from birth.

Also, Dr. George M. Strain of the Louisiana State University highlighted this in the MSD Veterinary Manual.

“The most common cause of deafness in dogs and cats is congenital and hereditary, associated with white pigmentation.”

However, contrary to general belief, not all their health issues are related to genetic factors. (Pettitt, 2022)
